Figure 4. This wind rose for January - February 2003 illustrates the bi-modal distribution of wind direction associated with the onset of fall-winter in southern California. During this particular February, there were a lot of strong winds from the southwest – southeast, an indicator of the numerous storms passing through the area. The northwest winds are indicative of post frontal activity. Hourly averaged wind speeds and directions are used in all three wind roses.
